A journey through my last year as a twenty-something

Oops!

I'm not doing a very good job documenting the death of my twenties am I? My last post was 2 months ago. Oops! Life was happening. I'm back though and will start posting new stuff shortly.

So, what have you missed?

  • One of our dogs died at the beginning of June. She was the cutest thing in the world. Not sure what happened but she was fine one minute and within an hour she was gone. I couldn't find anything she got into so who knows.
  • We moved. We are now living in Ashland, KY. It's about 40 minutes from our families but the house we moved into is the perfect size for us. No more paying to heat and cool rooms we never use. Yay for that!
  • A week in Charlotte with Jenn back at the end of May proved to have more rain than we anticipated. We did get to meet several NASCAR drivers and even met some more Kyle Busch fans.
With the moving and everything blogging took a back burner for a while. Now that I have a stable internet connection and the desire to write again. I will be picking up where I left off.

Out Of Town!

I won't be posting anything new here for the next week. I am out of town for the week. Don't forget about me!

Can I Have A Prescription Please?

Hi my name is Katy and I am a basketcase. I have been for years. It used to be part of my personality. A friend of mine joked that I was the basketcase and she was the rock that kept me from losing it. Now being a basketcase is all I know.

I hate admitting that I am weak. That at any minute I might have a mood swing that will take me from feeling on top of the world to feeling like I have no purpose in life. I hate having uncontrollable crying fits for no reason at all. I hate not being in control of every teeny tiny aspect of my life. But I’m not.

Sometimes I think if I had a drug habit or was an alcoholic I would at least have any excuse to feel this way. That’s insane. As the daughter of an alcoholic I know that’s nuts. I don’t understand why I can’t function like a normal human being. Why must I be on paranoid high alert all the time? Why does the sound of the mailman on my front porch freak me out?

I think I might need some meds. (you know if you lost weight…shut up mom) I used to take antidepressants but at the time the doctors thought that he mood swings were part of a larger hormonal imbalance problem. They blamed it on my PCOS and the fact that my blood sugar and hormones are all out of whack.

I think I might need to go back on them. I might be bipolar as one doctor suggested and I might just not be taking my PCOS medication like I should be. Regardless I need to do something soon. Bless my husband for putting up with my insane mood swings and general paranoia.

Next Time Just Slap Me In the Face

Tackling my weight is a huge goal for this year. That’s why there are so many posts about it. I promise I will move onto another subject soon.

Overweight people know they are overweight. They don’t need you telling them that every chance you get. In fact if you mention to someone’s face that they are fat or need to lose weight, regardless of your reasons for mentioning it, chances are they are going to make a beeline for the tub of ice cream in the freezer or the bag of potato chips in the pantry.

You would think if someone told you that you needed to lose weight because they were concerned about your health that you’d be signing up for a gym the next day. If someone tells me I need to lose weight the only thing I want is another cheeseburger. Burger King is just down the street? The Whopper Jr. is only 99 cents? I will have 2 please. Why? You already think I look like shit, why not add a few hundred more calories to my diet? It won’t make that much difference. That’s how I felt the other day when I got a package in the mail.

You may have read yesterday’s post about my mom and her advice for curing all my problems. Like I said it’s hard to be mad at someone who is trying to help but it just adds to me feeling like crap when she sends me something like this.

It seems she was watching television and found a weight loss program that she thought would be beneficial. So, what did she do? Instead of asking me if I would consider using it or if it would be okay if she orders it she picks up the phone (or her computer…whatever) and orders it. At least she told me to expect something in the mail so I wasn’t completely surprised. Still that didn’t stop me from being angry when I opened up the box to find the “Melt It With Mitch” program.

Gee Mom, thanks, just slap me in the face next time. I love feeling like a whale...I appreciate it that you know exactly how to make my self confidence plummet through the floor. Nothing says “I love you” like hey I bought you this weight loss program. You might as well just say, “I’m embarrassed by you”.

I know she means well, but seriously?

Okay, I’m over being upset about it. I’m willing to give it a shot. I’m not saying that it’s going to work miracles or that I will be able to stick to the diet plan (who can afford to eat this stuff?) but I can at least give the workouts a try. That’s better than nothing right? The only problem I can see with the program is that no one will be forcing me to do it. I don’t have to put the DVD in. Who is going to make sure I actually do it?

No doubt my mom would drive the hour to my house every day just to make sure I did the workout. That’s just how she is. I love her but sometimes she makes me want to pull my hair out. Thank God I have an abundance.
