Last night while I was lying in bed trying to go to sleep I came upon a realization. I don't ask questions. I ask accusations.
Say what?
When a normal person asks a question they are looking for an answer to something they don't know.
When I ask a question I don't do that. I ask questions I already know the answers to as if it's an accusation. For instance when I asked my husband last night if he had written that article on discrimination yet I knew he had not written it. I knew he had spent the day playing his favorite online game.
So what's the point in asking questions that I already know the answers to? Guilt. I'm trying to use guilt. Does it work. Nope. He knows me to well. He figured out a long time ago that I ask questions this way. More often than not my questions get worded as accusations. I might as well just say, "I know you didn't do it. You suck." cause that's how it comes across.
I learned this from my mom. I love my mom to death but she does the same thing. Every question she asks is more like an accusation rather than a question. It's like she is trying to catch me in a lie. I do the same thing to my husband. It's horrible!
So, I'm making this a goal. Stop asking questions as a way to accuse and and make accusations.
I Don't Ask Questions (342 Days)
I Should Really.... (351 Days)
Go to church. Yes, I should really go to church. You heard it here first.
I grew up attending church every weekend with my family. I attended church with friends and I even taught Sunday school when I was in high school. When I went off to college I got out of the habit of going which is pretty funny actually, considering I attended a Catholic university. Over the years I have attended church a couple times a year on the holidays like Christmas and Easter but that's it.
I feel like something is missing in my life and maybe church is that missing piece. I'm not saying I'm going to become someone who attends church three times a week or anything like that but I think I need to examine my relationship with God and make an attempt to get back to church. I know this goal will make my mom happy.
Reconnecting (361 Days)
In the last few years I haven't been a very good friend. I used to have a bunch of friends I hung out with, but at some point I just stopped. That's sad. I've been thinking a lot about these people as of late and it really hit me yesterday when I commented on a friends picture on MySpace of her and a guy. I considered this person to be my best friend for more more than 20 years and now I don't know who these people are with her in the pictures. I still talk to her on occasion online but it's been more than 2 years since I saw her in person...and we only live an hour away from each other.
She isn't the only person I have lost contact with but this is the one that bothers me the most. We have known each other since we were 4 and now the only time we talk is through random online comments every few months. We used to spend nearly every day together and I spent more time at her house than I did mine. We've talked about getting together from time to time but it never works out.
I am making this one of my top priorities for this year. I want to reconnect with people I have lost touch with. People who were once some of the most important people in my life. People who know nearly everything about me and I about them. I just hope they will let me back into their lives.
Do you have friends you want to reconnect with? What are you doing to make this possible?
Walking Tall (363 Days)
I'm 29 years old and have never learned to walk in high heels. Yes, I admit it, I'm a freak. It's not like I haven't tried walking in them. Okay, so I own one pair of heels and don't even know where they are. I can walk from point A to point B while wearing them but I don't feel graceful and I know I don't look graceful.
I am worried about them falling off my feet.
So, goal 1 for this year is to learn to walk in heels. That might seem like a silly goal to those of you who wear heels. Maybe you were expecting my goals to be something more serious. Sorry to disappoint you so early. As far as goals go this one seems pretty easy to obtain so I thought I would start off small. More serious goals will come later. There will be a new tab showing up shortly in the sidebar that links to my goals. As I write about them I will add them to the list and keep you updated.
I guess it's time to dig those heels out of the closet and start parading around the house in them. Anyone got any tips?
If you don't hear from me for a few days that means I went tumbling down the stairs in my one pair of heels and broke myself.
Wish me luck!
